Aristotle said, “Good habits formed at youth make all the difference.” Those at Petawa Residence have a passion for passing along good habits to young women. Just look at all the offerings specifically for high school girls.
Every Thursday night from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., girls can stop by Windsor for doctrinal classes, meditation, spiritual direction and a fun get together. Sheila Hamill oversees the formation and fun at Windsor located at 17700 West Capitol Drive, located in Stonewood Village in Brookfield. Ten to 15 girls regularly attend this weekly event. No need RSVP. Girls are encouraged to drop by and bring their friends.
On the third Saturday each month, Service Saturdays is in full swing at Petawa. Started by junior, Eileen Rauh, this group lends a helping hand around the city of Milwaukee & the surrounding suburbs. The Riverwest Food Pantry, the Catholic Home and the Hunger Task Force are regular stops for this energetic bunch. In addition they have raked leaves and visited the elderly and homebound, learning that giving is a two way street. Exposing the girls to the wisdom of older people is just one of the benefits. Most sessions of Service Saturdays end with the group heading out to lunch together.
Monthly days of recollection for high school girls are held at Petawa on the second Saturday of the month from 3:00 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. Teaching teens to cherish silence and contemplation in a very noisy world will serve them well.
Meditation & Movie Nights are held on the fourth Fridays of each month (7:00pm) at Petawa. The combination of a time of prayer, confessions available, and a fun movie & discussion allow for the high school girls to integrate faith into their everyday lives.
